This is a story between a boy named Shadow and a girl named Midnight. It seems as though they were meant for each other, but never go out. Her family is very rich, but they never help her out with anything. She lives in the attic and has to steal money. His family is very poor; he only gets the one room to himself, because his family hates him and does not like to see him. They both live horrible lives at home, as well as at school; and always have. They both secretly love each other, but do not have the guts to tell the other. They have known each other since they were babies. That is where their love started. They are smart and everyone in the school hates them, just like at home. Through out there whole lives they feel as though no one cares or even loves them. Everyone knows that they are the smartest kids in school and are  the biggest outcasts. They grow up with each other, and go through many stages. Becoming friends, ignoring each other out of confusion, briefly talking and missing each other, being mean to each other, on friendly terms, great friends, finally tell each other, odd state for not going out. Will they ever get to be together? Will he save her from her father? Do their smarts ever get them into trouble they do not need? Will their games make them hate each other? Will they ever understand that they are meant to be and how much they are hurting the other?

Two best-friends live their whole lives with everyone going against them, except for each-other. They grow up together and go through everything together, their love is all they have.
